7 Great Habits of 5AM people

I think you’ll agree with me when I say this: waking up early is cool.

7 great habits of 5AM peopleHowever, let’s get one thing out of the way: not many people tend to do it. If you could sleep until 10AM without having to worry about a single thing, I bet whatever you want, you would totally do it.

So, why is everyone obsessed with waking up early if literally, nobody enjoys it?

The answer is quite simple, honestly: Because it’s necessary.

It’s like when your mom used to tell you to eat your veggies, did you like that? Probably not, but was it good for you? Hell yes, it was! And that’s exactly why waking up early – as unpleasant as it is – is necessary.

Not only that, waking up early is directly connected with “being successful” although I bet you, the Kardashians aren’t waking up at 5M every day, but apparently, a huge majority of successful people are… every freaking day. It’s a great way of kickstarting your day on a productive note.

You might like to know a thing or two what these A-listers accomplish in those early hours.

So, if you want to be like them, or you are trying hard to really learn how to love waking up early, here are 7 great habits of 5AM people:

#1: They go to bed EARLY

You were probably already expecting this, but you can’t get used to wake up early and get into all the habits I am about to tell if you if you keep going to bed at 2AM… You know? It doesn’t work that way.

In order to wake up early and have enough energy to really make your morning count, you have to be awake! And if you wake up at 5AM still sleepy and without being able to rest, well, it won’t work out at all.

So yeah, the very first habit of 5AM people actually starts the night before. Just try to go to bed as early as possible so you have your 8 hours of beauty sleep before having to wake up ridiculously early, and you’ll be alright, I promise.

#2: They actually have breakfast

Today’s Instagram society has led us to believe that a cup of cold coffee is a balanced and great replacement for breakfast, and as a cold coffee lover myself I must say, that isn’t true!

We tend to skip breakfast because we simply don’t have the time to actually eat a balanced meal first time in the morning. But guess what? If you wake up early enough you HAVE time to eat breakfast! So take advantage of that, make sure you are starting your day just right.

#3: They do exercise

I’m not talking “Let’s go out to run 2K each morning at 5AM” But more like try to do any kind of low-impact exercise that can boost your energy! Because yes, exercising in the morning does actually makes you feel better.

7 great habits of 5AM peopleDo yoga, dance a little to your favorite songs, even do a quick run… Whatever you feel comfortable with, the idea is to get your energy up enough! This way you get happier and are able to focus better on what’s left of the morning.

#4: They take time for themselves

One of the few great things about waking up early is having enough time to spare for yourself, and this is actually a lot of driven, successful people do: They take time off to focus on themselves.

Call it meditation, call it doing something you like -a side hustle, perhaps, whatever really, it’s just about taking some time off just to focus on yourself, to take advantage that everyone else is asleep but you.

You want to read? Do it. You want to meditate? Now it’s your chance. It can whatever that brings you genuinely joy, something you want to do in the calm and peace of the morning, without anyone annoying you.

#5: They check out their schedule/To-do List

Waking up early leaves you enough time to organize your day.

Most successful people sort out the flow of their day in those early hours. A checklist or a to-do list is your choice. Some like them and some don’t. Some only prefer making entries on their calendar.

If you have an agenda (even if it’s on your phone) then early in the morning is probably the very best time to check that out. Not only this will save you from forgetting very important things but will also allow you to really prepare for another day ahead.

#6: They take the time to journal

I know keeping up with a journal is not necessarily for everyone, but hey, that’s something most 5AM people do. And you might be wondering, why is that? Well, because it helps with planning out your day or even week, and because it helps you focus.

7 great habits of 5AM peopleKeep in mind your journal can be about anything you want, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a planner. Just write down your thoughts, how you are feeling, what you are grateful… Just let yourself go, you can even take this as another type of “me” time, if you know what I mean.

#7: They get that specific thing done

As organized and focused as morning people can be, a lot of them use this early time to tackle that one task they forgot to do the day before or that one thing they just want to get over with.

You know that annoying email you haven’t get yourself to write down? Or that very important thing you were supposed to read but didn’t? Well, now is the right time to get yourself together and do it.

***

Listen, there is no better time of the day to do your tasks, work or even homework than the early morning: You don’t have any kind of distractions, nobody’s going to bother you, and everything is quiet… What else could you possibly ask for?

I am obsessed with this whole idea of kickstarting things early in the day. Even if I have to lug myself out of the bed, I do that.

Afterall, If I don’t wake up early, I won’t get time to write, I won’t get time to read and I surely won’t get the pleasure of staring at empty, tranquil highway across my building. It’s such a feeling, really.

So what do you think about this whole idea of getting up early? Do you think it adds to your productivity? Or is it simply a faff being spread about by a bunch of insomniacs? Do share your comments in the box below.

  1. I usually wake up at 6.15 to do my yoga.Sometime is hard and some days I can’t do it because I physically too exhausted but those are more expetion .most of the time I get up early and the silence in the house and that hour just for me is priceless….. it to mention that I then have a spare hour during the day to read or write.
